Engaging and connecting with the community is vital for the success of any community based project. There are many different ways you can do this – questionnaires, community events, polls, mapping and suggestion boxes. Recruiting ‘volunteers’ can be seem as a difficult task however there are numerous organisations available to assist you with the task. If you have been successful in identifying the needs via consultation it is easier to get individuals on board as they will feel they have contributed to the project from the outset and thus have become empowered to contribute. Different groups of communities may communicate in different ways e.g. young people may favour Facebook and older people a written letter.
