About East Harling Social Support Group -2010
Updated by A. Crompton 9th March 2010.
The above Group was formed in July 2007 .
We meet at the Rudd Room at the Harling Sports and Social Club- Wednesdays at 10.30am until 12- 12.30.
It was felt that a local group was needed, for people who are not so mobile, and wouldn't necessarily meet the criteria for statuary services.
The Group is self led and all decisions are made in consultation with its members.
The Group has a Constituition and has a Committee of 7 ,as per our Constiution. Committee consists of Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary plus deputies plus a Press Officer and Entertainment Officer .also 2 members attend committee meetings on a rotation period of 3 Meetings but do not have voting rights at those meetings.
The Group has grown from 7 members to 29 fully subscribed members from different generations from age 18 upwards. It is particularly valuable to have the variety, to give opportunity to mix and explore common interests.
The members have varying degrees of mobility but encourage able bodied people to join in their activities. This will, we hope lead to a better understanding of the isolation that can be felt in rural communities such as ours.
Our Aims
We aim to provide social support for a few hours each week and take part in some form of social inclusion. We also want to try and Highlight Discriminatary Rights. We would like to be involved with other like minded groups, with a view to joining in outings for educational and recreational purpose.
We aim to have at least one speaker or an event every month and so far this is being achieved. We also have managed to take part in a variety of activities such as Crafts and Art and Movement to Music. We have all broadened our horizons since joining the Group and hope that we can continue to do so.
We are hoping to increase our membership, and we are actively fund Raising and pushing the boundaries to achieve this.
We advertise our Group within the village of Harling with Posters and publication of our diary of events in our Local Parish magazine and this is proving beneficial to the Group.
Diary from March 2009 to March 2010 Present

We have lost some members but gained more.
We have a Movement to Music morning one a month and have had a speaker almost every month.Ranging from PDSA- X Roads Carers-East Anglian Air Ambulance- Fire Prevention Officer- PACT Animal Sanctuary- Dogs Trust - visit by Police Officer Virgini Tribut with advice from Attleborough Police and Care Line to name just a few..

. George Prodromaou very kindly donated to our Group the winnings from his horse which he trained for the Races at Fakenham. Many thanks to George who supports us in all we do.
We also have had various prizes donated from many sources, for the Fayres and the Silent Auctions of which we have now run 2 very successfully.
We have been sponsored by Norfolk Community Foundation- O2 Its your Community- Anglian Co-op- Sue Smith Pharmacist BBC East- Tesco Stores- J.Sainsbury- Sir K.Carlyle from Wyken Hall- The Village Stores East Harling- Edges Butchers E.Harling- and The Warehouse at Thetford.
===Good News===' Our Group were nominated for a PRIDE OF BRECKLAND AWARD. We didnt win but it shows that our Group is worthy of such an award and that we are proving to be beneficial to our community.
We have lots of things planned for 2010 including outings and interesting speakers. Another silent auction is planned and Donations have already been offered.
We do still need to fund raise, as we have the day to day running of the group. Anyone who is involved with running groups will be aware just how costly this can be.
We are not a group that wants to sit around and talk about our problems, we want to get out there and do things.
At the same time we realise that we are a SUPPORT Group and we are all available to each other on the end of a phone, when someone is lonely and needs a listening ear. If a member does not show for two consecutive meetings then enquiries are made to ensure all is well with them.
.
FUNDRAISING.
Fund raising is a very important part of our Group.this is two fold- it raised much needed cash for the Group to keep running to pay all our expenses and save for the future, when the Grants we have had so far, come to an end. The extra benefit is stimulation and enjoyment for all our members, who willing give their time and ,find things for the Tombola stall and Bric-a-Brac and raffle. We held 6 Rund Raising events in 2009- from Easter Fayre- Silent Auction- Boot Fair - Open Coffee morning - Table Top Sale and a Christmas Fayre. All proved to be successful with much needed funds coming in. Our thanks are due to all members and their families and the Committee who work very hard getting the events organized.
