Hindolveston Recreation Ground Committee is currently fundraising for a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA)
The project is to erect a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) to increase the sporting facilities available at the recreation ground and pavilion in Hindolveston.
The hard surface of the MUGA, would allow football practice and 5-a-side matches to be played when the field is too wet to use. Currently there is an active football club, which includes both men’s and children’s squads. Subject to weather, the field is used on a Friday night, all day Saturday and some Sundays.
By including tennis facilities, older members of the village would be able to take part in some useful exercise during school-time, when the facility might otherwise be left unused. Doubles tennis gives families the ideal opportunity to participate together in a sport they can all enjoy.
Add to this netball and basketball etc, and we should have a facility which would get lots of use.
The aim of the MUGA is to encourage as many people from the village, regardless of age and ability, to get outside, have some exercise, while socialising and having fun.
At present there are over 80 people (plus away teams) who use the recreation ground facility. The MUGA would encourage the football club to grow and improve its overall standard.
It would also allow more people to have access to sporting activities nearer their homes rather than having to travel ten miles to Dereham or Fakenham.
Why is the project needed?
The MUGA is needed to open up the recreation ground to more members of the community and to build on existing use. There is no school or shop in the village so the recreation ground is an important meeting place for the community.
The Recreation Ground Committee carried out a village wide survey in February 2009 asking for comments on and support for the installation of a hard surface area for football practice. The support for this project was good. In addition there were requests for a larger hard-surface football area and for a tennis court with suitable fencing.
With the facilities of a MUGA the recreation ground would be used by members of the community who wish to play tennis, basketball and netball. The hours of usage would therefore be extended.
The MUGA would also mean that the organisers of weekly sports clubs and holiday camps would be able to offer a greater range of sporting activities for children not only in Hindolveston but from a wider catchment area. These clubs and camps are ideal opportunities for children to get outside and be physically active while learning or improving sporting skills. The football club is very popular and it would be fantastic to extend this to other sports such as tennis and basket ball.
Objectives
To encourage as many people from the village, regardless of age and ability, to get outside and exercise, whilst socialising and having fun.
The success of the project will be seen in the use of the MUGA by children and adults.
This will be measured via informal feedback and observation as well as through a survey.
