If you live in Hindolveston
this is YOUR Village Hall!
New to the village – or been here a while... Are you making the most of your Village Hall?
We’re very lucky in Hindolveston that there is such a superb meeting place and entertainment centre – and it would be a great shame if you were missing out because you feel in any way excluded from its activities.
NO ONE should feel “It’s not for me”. The building is in the centre of the village and a centre FOR the community.
Many villages even bigger than ours have to make do with much smaller premises – often not much more than a large hut.
We are fortunate to have large well-designed facilities which include parking space for many cars and a large grassed area for outdoor summer activities.
From 1886 it had been the village school, and several of the children who went there before it closed in 1984 are still living in Hindolveston.
It was already being used as a venue for a number of village events before its closure. What is now the main hall was then two classrooms divided by a partition which could be pulled back when needed for village functions.
When the school was known to be due for closure, a village meeting decided to buy the building, and in 1985 the acquisition was made for £19,000.
Grants were obtained to help with the purchase and renovation – but the village had to raise a third of the costs and did so by frequent, varied and energetic fundraising events.
Villagers did much of the decorating and refurbishment themselves. The building was officially opened as Hindolveston Village Hall in 1989.
The committee who run and care for the hall are also the trustees who have responsibility for it, although it “belongs” to the village through their stewardship.
Its success as a continuing focus for the community hinges entirely on the support it gets from villagers – including YOU!
If besides supporting events you’d actually like to help out with any of the activities, don’t hesitate to say so to any of the committee. We’re always glad of help – and promise you won’t get roped in as an unwilling committee member...
