In Steps 1 and 2 we have:

  • built up a group of core individuals to carry out an assessment of what natural and historical assets are in your Parish or immediate area
  • consulted with and engaged the community, telling them what you've found, seeking their views on what they value about these places and adding more places and aspects of value to the list

As well as the 'nice bits', you may have identified a number of 'problem' places that are in need of improvement in some way. It is also possible that your searches in Step 2 have not thrown up much that seems to be of any great significance to anyone. But fear not! There is still plenty for your community to do to improve things, indeed maybe even more.

The next step is to identify your community's opportunities to enhance and protect the natural, historical and landscape features around you and begin to put together a plan of action to act on these opportunities. In Step 3 you will identifying:

  • the threats and challenges that are facing places and spaces
  • the efforts that are already being made to enhance and protect these places in light of these threats and challenges (if anything)
  • the things that you and your community could do to assist these efforts (or begin new ones)
  • how you could make this happen
  • whether there are any funds or other resources to help you achieve this

To do this you may like to establish 'task forces' or 'working groups' to look at specific issues in detail.

Step three provides you with general advice and ideas - as every place and situation is going to be different. This advice is divided into the following suggested steps:
